Though the basic process of the tea is same, green tea is not allowed to ferment for longer periods of time so that the medicinal properties are not lost. Unlike black tea, this is dried and is used when completely fresh so that it is more effective.

A number of substances which are not found in black tea are found in abundance in green tea. It contains a lot of anti-oxidants which are helpful to the body. Also, polyphenol, which is present, is known to have myriad health benefits. One of the primary reasons for the widespread use of green tea is because it helps the brain to develop faster and be more alert. Also it increases the general health of the body without the fear of any side-effects. It has been in existence in the streets of every city of Asia for a very long time now. Studies have suggested that people who drink around 5 cups of green tea daily are found to have 16% risk of dying from any disease than people who do not. Also, the five cups are found to reduce the chances of cardiovascular attacks by a staggering 26%.
